History

Our Story

The Minnick family has sustainably farmed this ground for more than a century, including three decades as winegrowers. We're fifth-generation farmers who understand this land intimately.

The Minnick family first came to the Walla Walla Valley in 1876 and has been farming wheat, corn and beans in Walla Walla ever since. The Minnicks started farming with horses and now farm with state of art farming equipment and conservation techniques. We take great pride in being good stewards of the land and long-term, active members of the Walla Walla community.

Minnick Hills Vineyard was founded in 1999 by Laura Minnick and her husband Mike Smith and a group of the family including Adam Minnick, Amy Minnick and Jason Copeland. Laura and Mike selected the location of Minnick Hills Vineyard within the farm because of its ideal location to grow grapes. Our grapes and vines have been growing for more than 25 years in the same location that Laura and Mike first selected.

The vineyard is also close to the airport, which was originally part of the Minnick Family farm, but was given to the government during the second World War. We have been thrilled to see wineries thriving close to the airport and throughout the Walla Walla valley that we call home.
